LNMB/NGB Seminar 2013

Back to school, learn about the latest developments in Operations Research

Update your optimization knowledge at Lunteren

The Nederlands Genootschap voor Besliskunde (NGB) and the Landelijk Netwerk Mathematische Besliskunde (LNMB) jointly organize the one-day seminar "Back to school, learn about the latest developments in Operations Research", in Conference Center “De Werelt” in Lunteren, on January 17, 2013.  This time the conference will focus on the new developments on our area of expertise and offer you the opportunity to refresh and update you optimization knowledge and capabilities.

The seminar is the 15th annual seminar, following the previous successful seminars:
E-Commerce & Operations Research (2001)
Capacity Management - How Operations Research models support decision makers (2002)
New developments in Operations Research software (2003)
On-line methods: Challenges for OR in a real-time world (2004)
Mathematical Models for Financial Optimization (2005)
Operations Research and Health Care (2006)
Operations Research and Public Transportation (2007)
Operations Research and Energy (2008)
Operations Research and Traffic (2009)
Operations Research and Health Care (2010)
Operations Research in Supply Chain Management and Marketing (2011)
Operations Research in Supply Chain Management and Humanitarian Aid (2012)

ABOUT THE THEME

Research at Maastricht University has shown that working people in the Netherlands learn during 31% of their working life, so we learn every day. But is this enough to make sure that your skills and experience are always up-to-date? Can you handle the increasing complexity in decision making with the knowledge you have gained during your education? With a refreshment of latest techniques, this will go much better.

People never stop learning, so education and training are essential in this. Therefore, two tutorials on recent developments in Operations Research are organized during the seminar. A great opportunity to further broaden and deepen the knowledge on this profession for yourself and your team.

This year, the topics Robust Optimisation and Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming will be presented. Each tutorial consists of a theoretical introduction by a specialist in the field. In-depth discussion on the topics aims to explain the essence of the new developments. In addition, the tutorial focuses on practice. The tutorial will be concluded with a presentation on a concrete application.

During the lunch, PhD students and companies will get the possibility to get to know each other. A unique opportunity for PhD students to speak to company representatives about a career in business and for companies to present yourself to possible future employees. Companies that would like to participate in this "PhD meet company" lunch, please contact the chairman of the NGB.

More news on the exact program will follow

The conference language is English. Registration is possible via the Seminar On-line Registration Form. The conference fee is 85 Euro for LNMB and NGB members, and 135 Euro for others. The conference fee covers lunch, coffee, tea, and the drinks.
